Anderson Silva wants to compete in taekwondo at 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio

Anderson Silva is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and former UFC Middleweight Champion. Fernandes stated that he will meet with Silva this week but made clear that, if “The Spider” accepts, the 40-year-old fighter will have to participate in the national trials. As the host nation, Brazil is granted the right to issue four special invitations -- two female and two male -- but last week, CBTKD announced that one of those invites will be given to Lucas Oliveira.


Silva is currently serving a temporary suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for multiple banned substances following his win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183. He is expected to be formally disciplined at a hearing next month, though any suspension issued by the NAC would not necessarily affect Silva’s Olympic eligibility. Silva’s longtime friend and training partner Antonio Rogerio Nogueira brought Brazil a bronze medal in boxing at the 2007 Pan American Games, the same competition where Ronda Rousey won gold for the U.S. in judo.

Olympic Wrestler Bilyal Makhov Eyes Rio Olympics and Signs with UFC

Keshtov said if he works six months with him, Russia can be owner of UFC heavyweight belt.


Makhov has won freestyle wrestling world championship three times. He lives in the area where he saw the flourishing of MMA fighters. He has also worked with ex UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski which increaed his interest in the sport. He said on this he always likes to challenge himself. He presented as an example that he decided to switch to Greco-Roman style after successful career of freestyle wrestling and he would focus on MMA afterwards. The Olympic medalist said he has focused on hard work, time and attention in his career and if he can work in the same way In MMA then he can achieve highest level of success in the sport.
