Series win incites Tonia Couch for Olympics and world championships

Great Britain’s diver Tonia Couch thinks she can complete podium finish at the world championships and next year’s Olympics after her recent successful diving World Series. The 26-year-old won bronze at the most recent World Series in Mexico in the category of 10m platform after giving six consistent performances to secure  the overall title. The individual competition of the Plymouth diver at the World Aquatics Championships in Russia later this summer must be finished in top 12 to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

She said her recent success has boosted her confidence. Couch said she worked hard in the World series and her six attempts turned out really well. She noted it is satisfactory but not over yet because world championships is coming after six weeks. Couch admitted she wants a medal but it is a tough competition but her experience will help her because it will be her third Olympics next year.

Couch and Sarah Barrow also won three medals including a silver in Canada in synchronized diving throughout the World Series but the pair must be in the top three at the world championships to qualify for Rio. Couch admitted she saw many ups and downs throughout her career but won her first contest after just six weeks of diving which was a great achievement at such a young age. She further said you should keep on working hard and the results come your way.

Tokyo’s compact Games go beyond the bounds

Russia’s Olympic swimming team finalized

The Russian Swimming Federation finalized its 2016 competition calendar last year, and cemented Moscow as the hosts of its 2016 Olympic Trials. The final dates for the meet that will select Russia’s Olympic Team were not announced, but the meet will be held in April. The Russians held their 2012 Olympic Trials from April 17th-22nd.

Swimming at this year’s Olympic Games will be approximately a week later than they were last year in relative terms. Also at the meet, Russia announced that it would bid to host the 2019 European Aquatics Championships in its Krasnodar region. The far western area has a population of approximately 5 million residents and lies on the Black Sea.

That adds to the growing list of meets that Russia is bidding to host after its 2015 duties at the World Aquatics Championships, and includes the 2017 and 2019 European Short Course Championships and the 2018 and 2019 European Junior Championships.

Rio 2016 unveils test events schdules

The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee has announced the details of 44 test events that will be held in preparation for next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. The programme includes 34 Olympic sports events, six Paralympic events and four events that feature both Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.  The events will give the Organizing Committee an imperative chance to test the Olympic competition territories and results frameworks, and additionally coordinating all the significant partners and preparing the group of individuals who will be in charge of running the events amid the Games.

There are 21 events booked to occur in 2015, with the first arrangement of open air occasions to be held in the middle of July and October this year. Anderson Silva wants to compete in taekwondo at 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio

Anderson Silva is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and former UFC Middleweight Champion. The former UFC middleweight champion this week wrote a letter to the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation stating his desire to compete in the sport at the upcoming Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. Silva said that Everybody knows that the Olympic Games are a dream for every athlete. It is  going to be a big pleasure for me to be part of that gold team, so I register officially in this letter my desire to represent taekwondo and Brazil in the Rio Olympic Games.

Fernandes stated that he will meet with Silva this week but made clear that, if “The Spider” accepts, the 40-year-old fighter will have to participate in the national trials. As the host nation, Brazil is granted the right to issue four special invitations -- two female and two male -- but last week, CBTKD announced that one of those invites will be given to Lucas Oliveira.

Silva is currently serving a temporary suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for multiple banned substances following his win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183. He is expected to be formally disciplined at a hearing next month, though any suspension issued by the NAC would not necessarily affect Silva’s Olympic eligibility. Silva’s longtime friend and training partner Antonio Rogerio Nogueira brought Brazil a bronze medal in boxing at the 2007 Pan American Games, the same competition where Ronda Rousey won gold for the U.S. in judo.

Michael Phelps will aim for 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio

Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps said that he will try to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It is the first time Phelps has publicly committed to trying for the 2016 Games. One year ago, he announced he was coming out of retirement and would possibly target the Olympics in Rio.

Phelps is returning to competition this week for the first time since being suspended for six months from all approved events. USA Swimming suspended him in October after he was arrested for DUI and his suspension ended on April 6. He is competing in the Arena Pro Swim Series, which is being held April 15-18 at Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz.

As part of his suspension, USA Swimming and Phelps decided he would not participate in the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia. It was reported that he could possibly be reinstated for the event but on Wednesday Phelps said he respects the decision of USA Swimming and will not compete in Kazan. Last November, fellow USA swimmer Ryan Lochte said he had “no doubt” Phelps will be ready for the 2016 Olympics. Phelps won eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympics, including a one-hundredth of a second victory in the 100-meter butterfly that SI captured with an underwater camera.

Olympics 2016 Rowing and Canoeing Venue Cleaned from Dead Fish

Rowing and Canoeing venue of Rio Olympics 2016 has been cleaned from thirty-two tonnes of dead fish. Above 60 persons from the Rio's sanitation department were working on the task to remove the fish from the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas over the past week. Some professionals think contamination is the reason, whereas the others say it is down to an unexpected fall in water temperature.

A lot of dead fish have been cleaned up regularly at the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas for more than a decade. In February, a large number of dead fish were found in Guanabara Bay, where the sailing events will take place. In the past, the location has created problems due to the levels of refuse and untreated sewage in the water. In January, Brazil government representatives confessed they would miss their goal of an 80% decrease in water pollution by the start of the Olympic Games.
